YES.
This album…. this album. I’m not doing a review or whatnot, I’m rather biased so I don’t see how that would be at all fair, and I’m not even making this sound fancy shmancy. I just can’t even put into words how much I love this album. It speaks so pointedly to me on such an emotional level that it is sometimes hard to listen to. The sheer vulnerability that MPJ exudes, coupled with his voice that will always stand far and above almost any other voice on the planet for me (Hey Bono, I love you, but you wish you sounded like Matthew) make it an instant contender in my Album Of The Year category. There are moments on this that have me fist pumping and rolling my windows down in the car blasting it as loud as my 11 year old sound system will allow, and other moments that uncover such a place of vulnerability in myself that I can barely listen to it, let alone do it without tears streaming down my face.
Best part? I’m blessed enough to call Matthew and is wonderful, beautiful family my friends— but even if they weren’t, I’d be shouting from the rooftops at how stunning this is. He is as good as they come on EVERY level, and far surpasses a vast majority of music out there currently.
No meager words I could say would even begin to do this record justice, and because of that, rather than dissect every song, I’ll let the music as a whole speak for itself.
Get this record. Sink into it. Let it envelop you. And when he blows up the joint and you can’t believe everyone and his brother is obsessed? Remember who told you first. ;)
